The song was later recorded by Judy Garland, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and many others. They had further success in 1931 with " Goodnight Sweetheart ," written with composer Ray Noble and recorded by Guy Lombardo , Al Bowlly and Rudy Vallee among others.
Bowlly was mentioned, and his songs were used, throughout the first few series of the British TV comedy Goodnight Sweetheart. Bowlly's rendition of "Midnight, the Stars and You" has been particularly used and referenced throughout varied films, appearing in The Shining , Toy Story 4 , and Ready Player One .
During this time, Noble co-wrote "Turkish Delight", "By the Fireside" and "Goodnight, Sweetheart". The latter song was a number one hit for Guy Lombardo in the American charts. It was also used (with vocals by Al Bowlly) on the original Star Trek television series episode "The City on the Edge of Forever". [6]
