The Monticello Courthouse Square Historic District is a historic district in downtown Monticello, Illinois.The district includes the historic commercial center of the city, the county seat of Piatt County, and is centered on the Piatt County Courthouse. 80 buildings are included in the district, 73 of which are considered contributing to its historic character.

Piatt County is a county in Illinois. According to the 2020 United States Census, it had a population of 16,673. [1] Its county seat is Monticello. [2] Piatt County is part of the Champaign-Urbana Metropolitan Area.
Goose Creek Township is a township in Piatt County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2010 census, its population was 790 and it contained 355 housing units. [2] Ameren's Goose Creek Energy Center, a combustion turbine generator (CTG) power plant, is located in Goose Creek Township. [3]
Monticello is Township 18 North, Range 6 East and part of Township 18 North, Range 5 East of the Third Principal Meridian. According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 48.11 square miles (124.6 km 2), of which 48.05 square miles (124.4 km 2) (or 99.88%) is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 km 2) (or 0.12%) is water.
