This is a list of Scheduled Castes in India. The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are those considered the most socio-economic disadvantaged in India, and are officially defined in the Constitution of India in order to aid equality initiatives.
The seats of the legislative assembly are at Dehradun and Gairsain, the capitals of the state. The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years, unless dissolved earlier. It currently has 70 members, who are directly elected from single-seat constituencies. [1] Currently there are 13 reserved seats for scheduled caste and 2 for Scheduled Tribes.
They form 52% of the total population of the Scheduled caste population in Uttarakhand and are a beneficiary of the reservation policy. [6] About 68.5 percent of Shilpkars are cultivators by profession. [7] They are mainly found in the hill region of Uttarakhand and Terai regions of Uttar Pradesh.
