John Biviano's 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, or Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT) replica supercar, was delivered to his residence last week.
For the reunion movie Knight Rider 2000, KITT underwent a makeover and became the "Knight Industries 4000," a vehicle resembling the Pontiac Banshee concept car, but it was actually built using a Dodge Stealth and not a Firebird Trans Am. [10] A red 1982 third generation Firebird Trans Am appeared as the main protagonist’s car in Data East ...
The original KITT used in the Knight Rider TV series was based on a 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. UPDATE: This 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am KITT replica officially sold for $32,500. Let's get ...
A black Pontiac Firebird Trans Am built to mimic KITT from the TV series Knight Rider. The car used as KITT in the series was a customized 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, that cost US$100,000 to build [3] (equivalent to $316,000 in 2023). The nose and dashboard of the car were designed by design consultant Michael Scheffe. [4]
The original KITT is known as the Knight Industries Two Thousand, which appeared in the original TV series Knight Rider as a 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. The second KITT is known as the Knight Industries Three Thousand, which appeared first in the two-hour 2008 pilot film for a new Knight Rider TV series and then the new series itself, and ...
The first car was a red 1977 Firebird Trans Am survivor car from the Restore a Muscle Car Collection with a price of $57,200 (~$68,373 in 2023). The second vehicle was a rare 1974 Pontiac Trans AM 455 Super Duty, which was another survivor that reached $100,000 (~$119,533 in 2023) plus 10% buyer commission.
I believe Glen Larson explained why he chose the Trans Am in the Season 1 DVD commentary. He simply wanted a sporty, American, muscle car to represent KITT and the Trans Am fit the bill. I'd imagine the TA's were probably cheaper than Corvettes, so trashing one every week in stunts would have probably kept it within the show's budget.
The Ford Mustang was the first "pony car," introduced mid-year in 1964. Ford had participated in Trans-Am since its first season in 1966. In 1969 and 1970 Ford produced the Boss 302, a replica of their Trans-Am race cars. This car featured Ford's Boss 302, which was a standard 302 Ford Windsor engine fitted with 351 Cleveland cylinder heads.
