Welcome to the Harris County Clerk’s Office official website! As County Clerk, it is my goal to provide the residents of Harris County with quality customer service. The County Clerk’s Office records and maintains the records of the Commissioners Court, the Probate Courts, and the County Civil Courts at Law.
The County Clerk maintains vital documents, such as real property records, marriage licenses, birth and death records, and assumed name certificates (DBAs). The County Clerk also maintains case files for the Harris County Civil and Probate Courts, as well as, the records of the Harris County Commissioners Court.
The annexes are able to assist customers with obtaining public records from the Harris County Clerk’s Office such as Real Property (land records), County Civil, Probate, Marriage Licenses, Informal Marriage Licenses, Assumed Names, and other Miscellaneous Personal Records.

A birth certificate is a permanent legal record of an individual's birth. The Harris County Clerk's office can provide a short form birth certificate for anyone born in the State of Texas.
The Harris County Clerk’s office is happy to help you file documents or locate records, but we cannot answer legal questions. Legal matters often require the assistance of an attorney and the law prevents us from providing legal advice to any person.

The Harris County Clerk’s Office has land records from when the Republic of Texas was formed in 1836 to the present day. The Public Records Department’s role is to assist the public in looking up these land records, along with marriage licenses, DBA’s and other miscellaneous personal records.
Appointments for most services at the Harris County Clerk’s Office are no longer necessary, except for Maps/Condos and Acknowledgment of Paternity requests. If you currently have a scheduled appointment, but prefer to walk-in, please let the clerk know when you arrive in order to update the schedule.
