Jeremy instead leaks false information to Alaric from Damon. When Elijah Mikaelson (Daniel Gillies) comes back into town, he strikes a deal with Elena, Bonnie, and the Salvatores, promising that in exchange for Klaus, he will revive Klaus generations later. Damon and Bonnie go to retrieve Klaus, but Alaric ambushes Damon.

Klaus has only even been matched or overpowered in his confrontations against the then Enhanced Original Vampire Alaric Saltzman, his step-father Mikael, and the Upgraded Original Vampires Lucien Castle and Marcel Gerard respectively, the latter two being upgraded versions of Original Vampires specifically designed to kill them.
Klaus enters Alaric's body and compels Katherine to stay in Alaric's house. Bonnie and Jeremy find the site of the a witch massacre and Bonnie channels all the power. Alaric/Klaus blends with Stefan, Damon, and Elena and finds out that Bonnie has her powers.
Klaus goes to save Elena, taking on Alaric, but Alaric quickly turns the tables and is ready to stake him, but just as Alaric is ready to kill Klaus, Elena correctly assumes that she is Alaric's lifeline and that if she dies, so does he. Klaus escapes with Elena, intending to bleed her dry before he leaves town because he wants to kill Alaric.

Alaric Saltzman heads to New Orleans with an item from the Lockwood estate. The search for the bones becomes a priority, and Marcel and his vampires join the Mikaelsons in searching. Sofya/The Hollow returns to Marcel. Hayley and Klaus meet with the Harvest girls who send them to talk with Davina who explains the history behind The Hollow.
But when Klaus and an amnesiac Elijah meet, Hayley goes missing and Nazi vampires emerge, the entire family returns to New Orleans to fight these new brewing threats. This season also acts as a soft backdoor pilot through small incorporations of the Salvatore School and future Legacies characters Alaric, Landon Kirby and the Saltzman twins.
