Mesh is a measurement of particle size often used in determining the particle-size distribution of a granular material. For example, a sample from a truckload of peanuts may be placed atop a mesh with 5 mm openings. When the mesh is shaken, small broken pieces and dust pass through the mesh while whole peanuts are retained on the mesh.

A large amount of materials can be readily loaded into 8-inch-diameter (200 mm) sieve trays. Two common uses in the powder industry are wet-sieving of milled limestone and dry-sieving of milled coal. Disadvantages: many PSDs are concerned with particles too small for separation by sieving to be practical.
A sieve analysis (or gradation test) is a practice or procedure used in geology, civil engineering, [1] and chemical engineering [2] to assess the particle size distribution (also called gradation) of a granular material by allowing the material to pass through a series of sieves of progressively smaller mesh size and weighing the amount of material that is stopped by each sieve as a fraction ...
Ends per inch (EPI or e.p.i.) is the number of warp threads per inch of woven fabric. [12] [22] In general, the higher the ends per inch, the finer the fabric is. Ends per inch is very commonly used by weavers who must use the number of ends per inch in order to pick the right reed to weave with. The number of ends per inch varies on the ...

Ceramic Raschig rings.....and plastic BiaĆecki rings of increased SSA. Values obtained for specific surface area depend on the method of measurement. In adsorption based methods, the size of the adsorbate molecule (the probe molecule), the exposed crystallographic planes at the surface and measurement temperature all affect the obtained specific surface area. Certain standard pitches such as 1 ⁄ 10 and 1 ⁄ 20 in inch measurements, which mesh with linear rack, are actually (linear) circular pitch values with units of "inches" [55] When gear dimensions are in the metric system the pitch specification is generally in terms of module or modulus, which is effectively a length measurement across the ...
