The university, with a campus spread over 853 acres (345 ha), is named in honour of Shivaji I. It was inaugurated on 18 November 1962 by Dr. Radhakrishnan, the then president of India.
The college was established in 1999 by Annasaheb Dange. The institute is NAAC-accredited and NBA-accredited. [ 3 ] The institute was once affiliated with Shivaji University , Kolhapur , but as of academic year 2017–2018, it gained autonomous status.
