The 1978 US Open was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at the USTA National Tennis Center in New York City in New York in the United States. It was the 98th edition of the US Open and the third Grand Slam tennis event of the year.
Jimmy Connors defeated Björn Borg in the final, 6–4, 6–2, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1978 US Open. The final was watched by a sell-out crowd of 19,537 spectators. [1] It was his third US Open singles title and fifth major singles title overall. This was the first edition of the US Open to be played on hard courts.
Three-time defending champion Chris Evert defeated Pam Shriver in the final, 7–5, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1978 US Open. [1] It was her fourth consecutive US Open title (an Open Era record), her fourth US Open singles title overall, and her eighth major singles title overall.
