The Kalos League Conference at Lumiose City finally begins. Ash, Sawyer, Tierno, Trevor, and Alain are all competing in the tournament, with Alain's old opponents from Mega Evolution Act I, Astrid and Remo, entering as well. The first match is between Alain and Trevor, which sparks a battle between Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y.
Next, the battle between the Galar Champion Leon and Lumiose Conference Winner Alain begins. Alain fails to take control for the entirety of the battle, and his ace Pokémon Mega Charizard X is knocked out by Leon's own Charizard in the last match-up, eliminating Alain from the tournament. With the win, Leon advances to the second round.
Alain is a Pokémon Trainer who acts as one of Ash's rivals in Kalos. He is a former assistant of Professor Sycamore, but left his side a long time prior to the series. He has a close bond with his Charizard and directly aids Lysandre with his goals. During his travels, Alain meets a girl named Mairin, who he comes to care for.
Alain continues his journey to find and defeat all of the Mega Evolutions in the world. He next meets up with the Hoenn Region Champion, Steven Stone, who has also been traveling to understand the secrets of Mega Evolution and the Mega Stones, but both are caught off guard when Rayquaza appears in the skies.
After defeating all eight Kalos Gym Leaders, Ash competes in the Kalos League and advances all the way to the finals, where he loses to Alain, placing him runner-up and Alain becomes the Winner of the Lumiose Conference. Bidding farewell to his friends in Kalos, Ash once again returns to Pallet Town.
After Ash registers for the Kalos League, he encounters a Pokémon called Dedenne and a Fletchling. His newly captured Froakie does his best to battle Fletchling, but Clemont accidentally angers a swarm of Beedrill. Meanwhile, Serena decides to start her journey as a Pokémon trainer after discovering that her childhood friend, Ash,is in Kalos.
