The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is a protected area in the Philippines.. The park is located in the Saint Paul Mountain Range on the western coast of the island of Palawan, about 80 kilometers (50 mi) north of the city of Puerto Princesa, and contains the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River (also known as the Puerto Princesa Underground River or just Underground River).
Protected areas in the Philippines encompasses 4,620,000 hectares (11,400,000 acres) of terrestrial areas and 3,140,000 hectares (7,800,000 acres) of marine areas. It is also the site of several Tagbanua settlements whose main means of livelihood are fishing and farming, particularly in the areas of Minapla, New Guinlo, Binga, Alimanguan, Pancol and Liminagcong. [3] The mountain forms the center of the Mount Mantalingahan Protected Landscape (MMPL), a national park covering the entire Mantalingahan Mountain Range. The protected area status of MMPL was proclaimed on June 23, 2009, by virtue of Proclamation No. 1815.
