On 5 June 1998, Falcon Air Force Base was renamed Schriever Air Force Base in honor of the retired General Bernard Schriever, who pioneered in the development of the American ballistic missile programs. Schriever AFB was the only Air Force base that was named for an Air Force veteran who was living at the time. General Schriever died 20 June 2005.

As part of 22 SOPS, the Colorado Tracking Station enjoyed a unique status as the only on-base satellite tracking facility. Originally built in the late 1980s, the station underwent a number of upgrades. In late 2006, the station was scheduled to receive a new equipment core, which would have allowed further automation of the satellite operations.
The squadron was originally stationed at Laredo Air Force Base, Texas. It was located there from 8 July 1972 until the base closed 1 January 1974. In 1975, the squadron moved to MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. The squadron was located at MacDill from 30 June 1975 until the unit was inactivated in 1980. [1]
