The CU Events Center is an 11,064-seat multi-purpose arena in the Western United States, on the main campus of the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado.Opened 45 years ago in 1979, it is home to the Colorado Buffaloes men's and women's basketball teams and women's volleyball of the Big 12 Conference.
On November 8, 2023, Kansas City was announced as a 2025 expansion team in the Pro Volleyball Federation, owned by Missy and Kent McCarthy. [1] [2] The team has named Lori Thomas as Team President. [3] [4] In July, 2024, the team announced it would not be launching for the 2025 season. The actual launch date remains undetermined. [5]
The volleyball program at the University of Colorado began in 1986. The Buffaloes' first head coach was Brad Saindon who was replaced by Mike McLean after three seasons. In McLean's first season, Colorado made its first NCAA tournament appearance. Partway through the 1990 season, Saindon returned as Colorado's head coach. [2]

In 1991, the tournament was renamed the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, and by 1992 it was so popular that it was moved to the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, a 7,300-seat arena. The NIVC held its tournament there for the last four years of its initial existence.
