Kalyan Junction is a major railway junction station on the central line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway network, lying at the junction of the north-east and south-east lines of the suburban Mumbai division of the Central Railway, 54 km (34 mi) north-east of Mumbai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Line 5 in Kalyan on 18 December 2018. [8] [9] In June 2019, the MMRDA stated that it had decided to start Line 5 from Kapurbawdi station, which would serve as an interchange with Line 4. The original plan had been to build a separate station 500 metres away from the Line 4 station. [10]
