Bangladesh is the theme country for Book Fair 2022. Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal and Bangladesh State Minister for Cultural Affairs, K. M. Khalid inaugurated the fair. [4] In this occasion Banerjee renamed the ground as Boimela Prangon. The 45th Book fair was postponed from 2 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [5] [6]
Until 2020 it was usually held at Umakanta Academy or Agartala Children's Park, after which the fair was moved to the Hapania International Fair Ground. [9] From the year 2022, this book fair is started in the month of March instead of February. [10] The 43rd edition was held from 2 January to 14 January 2025. [11]
A few publishing houses publish new books on the occasion of this fair. Commission is available in a certain amount (usually 25%) of the book. Bangladesh competed at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, from 22 September 2023 to 8 October 2023. Earlier the event was scheduled to held in September–October 2022 but due to COVID-19 pandemic cases rising in China the event was postponed and rescheduled to September–October 2023. [1] [2] [3]
