WestJet was founded on June 27, 1994, [23] by Clive Beddoe, David Neeleman, Mark Hill, Tim Morgan, and Donald Bell. WestJet was based on the low-cost carrier business model pioneered by Southwest Airlines and Morris Air in the United States. Its original routes were all located in Western Canada, which gave the airline its name.
Gregg Saretsky (born 1959 in Châteauguay, Quebec) is the former president and CEO of WestJet, a carrier based in Calgary, Alberta. He served in that position from April 2010 to March 8, 2018, after the resignation of Sean Durfy. [1] He grew up in a Montreal suburb to a French mother and a German father.
WestJet Encore Bombardier Q400 NextGen displaying 2013–2015 livery. WestJet made an initial order of 20 Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft through a letter of intent on May 1, 2012, which resulted in a conditional order on June 28, 2012. A firm order of 20 Q400 NextGen and 25 options was announced on August 1, 2012.
Service was originally planned to commence March 7, 2018, but was delayed until June 21, 2018. [2] The brand was created to primarily connect smaller cities in western Canada with WestJet's domestic hubs at Calgary International Airport and Vancouver International Airport [3] and stimulate air travel in smaller markets. Durfy is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of WestJet and was responsible for the day-to-day operations of Canada's second largest airline. Durfy joined WestJet in 2004 as Executive Vice-President, Sales, Marketing and Airports. He became WestJet's President in 2006 and added the title of CEO in 2007.
