The 1969–70 season was Swindon Town's first season in the Division Two after promotion from Division Three in 1969. In what proved to be a historic season for Swindon as the club added to its first major piece of silverware, the League Cup by winning the Anglo-Italian Cup and Anglo-Italian Cup Winners' Cup .

The Swindon Town team of 1898–99 in green. Swindon Town were an amateur club until 1894, playing friendly games against local teams before entering the FA Cup for the first time in 1886. The team also played in the inaugural Wiltshire Cup in 1886 and went on to win it in 6 consecutive years from 1886 to 1892.
