Finally, the orientation of this post is for Standard in its modern form (meaning effectively Standard since about Invasion block onwards). Standard from the bad old days was very different and should not be used as a context for this discussion. Summary 1. Good Decks Play With Good Cards 2. Good Decks Have Good Plans 3. Good Decks Have Good ...

Naturally, there's decks I don't really remember too well. I know Mind's Desire was fairly popular, but my storm deck involved vedalken archmage, retract, 0 cost artifacts and Brainfreeze. I'm not sure if Charbelcher decks were super powerful in standard, but I don't think so. I know there's at least one major Mirrodin era deck I'm drawing a ...
Is there an easy place to go to find these? While I remember most of the names of the 2008 decks, I don't for 2009 and beyond. I remember cards that were used in the decks, but that doesn't kick me back the best of the best deck lists. Thanks! PS - I got to thinking about this based on the From The Vault 20 thread.
Personally, I think it would be fascinating to see which decks came out on top if they all faced off against each other. But don't be surprised if the early decks come out on top. Magic was more broken back then. As good as decks like Caw-Blade, Jund and Affinity were, I don't think they'd stand a chance against some of the early powerhouses.
When standard games are over in turn 1 before an opponent can even play a land, sure, then you can say modern decks are tougher. Even aggro decks of the time (and before) will give decks today a run for their money, even if their creatures are inferior. "why hello there $200 mana base, say hi to wasteland/stripmine/price of progress/back to ...
Lorwyn in Standard. By S. S. WilkinsOct 24, 2007. Articles. 0. Lorwyn is the new set on the block, rotating in as the Ravnica block rotates out. This leaves Standard in a state of turmoil until the dust clears and the best deck stands out for us all to see. Before I start talking about possible archetypes of the new Standard, I ...
Rec-Sur is still one of the most elegant decks ever built; it's a five-color deck built to abuse the synergy between Survival of the Fittest and Recurring Nightmare. Sligh was really good at the time thanks to Jackal Pup and Cursed Scroll being printed in Tempest.
I have 2 decks right now I play. I play standard only, mostly casual atm but I have gone to fnm, and will be going to more soon. When it comes to your deck, step back and look at it and try to make sure that every card serves a purpose. Is there a good reason for going multiple colors, and can you achieve the same task while using fewer colors.
The old Vice-Tax decks from Fallen Empires-4th-Ice Age standard were awesome too, but they no longer work under current rules since Winter Orb no-longer shuts down when tapped as it used to. But the Turbo Stasis deck from the same era, as mentioned earlier, is just as cool, or you can bump it to the Ice Age-5th-Mirage standard and run ChronoStasis.
