Shelby Charter Township, officially the Charter Township of Shelby, is a charter township located in Macomb County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The township is an affluent northern suburb of Detroit. As of the 2020 census, the population was 79,408, [2] up from 73,804 in 2010.
As of the census [1] of 2000, there were 3,951 people, 1,388 households, and 1,059 families residing in the township. The population density was 109.8 per square mile (42.4/km 2 ). There were 1,502 housing units at an average density of 41.7 per square mile (16.1/km 2 ).
As of the 2020 United States Census, [6] [7] there were 2,520 people living in the village. 42.7% were non-Hispanic White, 1.9% Black or African American, 0.1% Asian, 1.4% Native American, and 13.2% of two or more races. 51.6% were Hispanic or Latino (which makes it the highest percent and only community with a Hispanic-majority in the state).

Shelby Township was organized in 1858, the year Minnesota achieved statehood. The township's main inducement to settlement was its rich prairie loam, rendered still more attractive by the availability of wood lots along the Blue Earth River. By 1860, Shelby Township was the most populous in Blue Earth County.
