St. Marys is a town in southwestern Ontario, Canada. It is located at the confluence of the north branch of the Thames River and Trout Creek southwest of Stratford, and is surrounded by the Township of Perth South in Perth County, Ontario. St. Marys operates under its own municipal government that is independent from the county's government.

When the township of Bexley (in the now defunct Victoria County, now the city of Kawartha Lakes) was surveyed in the 1830s, [1] St. Mary's was the first town site reserved in the newly surveyed area. [2] It was to be built on the west shore of West Bay on Balsam Lake, at the end of the Portage Road.
The Sault Ste. Marie Canal is a National Historic Site in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and is part of the national park system, managed by Parks Canada. It includes a lock to bypass the rapids on the St. Marys River. The first canal near the site was built in 1798, but was destroyed in 1814 during the War of 1812.
