    Having lived in China and visited HK, Macao, Beijing, Guilin, etc etc, I have never heard of this. Karaoke is pretty much just called KTV, during conversations in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. Having also visited KTV bars, and what you could consider to be Special KTVs (we called them Chicken Clubs, and also had nightclubs, and hookers).
