Video Music Box is an American music television program. The series is the first to feature hip hop videos primarily, [3][4] and was created in 1983 by Ralph McDaniels and Lionel C. Martin, who also serve as the series' hosts. [1] It aired on the New York City -owned public television station WNYC-TV (now WPXN-TV) from 1984 to 1996.

Lionel C. Martin is an American music video director, film director and VJ from Queens, New York. [1] While he is known primarily as a music video director, he has also directed the films Def Jam's How to Be a Player (1997) and Longshot (2001). [2] Martin also co-created and co-hosts the music video program Video Music Box with Ralph McDaniels.
