Ada is a city in and the county seat of Pontotoc County, Oklahoma, United States. [4] The population was 16,481 at the 2020 United States Census. The city was named for Ada Reed, the daughter of an early settler, and was incorporated in 1901. [5] Ada is home to East Central University, and is the capital of the Chickasaw Nation.
It was operated by the Sisters of Mercy and had 96 beds. By 1989, an Obstetrics unit was added and the hospital expanded to 189 beds. [ 2 ] In 2018, the hospital completed a significant modernization remodel, creating all-private rooms and adding a new 5-story tower. 21 ICU rooms were created.

The building, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, is located at 100 E 13th Street in Ada, Oklahoma. Opened in 1947, it was called "one of the best equipped clinics in the Southwest." Architect Albert S. Ross designed it to fulfill Dr. Alfred R. Sugg's dream of a large, modern clinic to serve the growing city.
In 2006, the hospital changed its name to OSU Medical Center, [10] as the State of Oklahoma passed Senate Bill 1771, which provided $40 million to fund improvements at the hospital. [ 11 ] [ 12 ] The city formed a trust to take over the hospital, which was threatened with closure by lack of funds. [ 5 ]
