I would like to calculate market breadth indicators and would like to find out how many of common stocks traded were up or down 4% (breakouts/breakdowns) (Cl-Lag(Cl) > 0.04 (4% breakout), Cl-Lag(Cl) < -0.04 (4% breakdown)), how many of common stocks traded are down/up 25% in quarter etc.
I remember having seen that somewhere, I can't find it any more. Anyone knows how can I get all the list of stocks on Yahoo finance. Or even all american stocks, maybe Russell 1000/2000/3000...

Where to download list of all common stocks traded on NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX? Is it possible to download a list of stocks that belong to a specific exchange (e.g. NASDAQ, AMEX, NYSE)? The tseries package has a function to download the price history of a stock, but how to get all the stocks of an exchange?
You can limit the results to NYSE listed stocks and can easily export to CSV using the "export" link at the bottom right of the table. Bear in mind, industry/sector classifications are no uniform. You'll find different classification methods depending on where you look.

$\begingroup$ Why do you want to see all trades for a stock? What is you objective? (All trades for all stocks for just 1 day is an enormous amount of data BTW. It is not something you can casually "look at" to satisfy your curiosity. It is a "big data" project to extract info from megabytes or gigabytes of data). $\endgroup$ –
NASDAQ provides a list of traded stocks. It is available on their FTP server: ftp.nasdaqtrader.com. There you will find two files of interest: nasdaqlisted.txt and otherlisted.txt. nasdaqlisted.txt lists the NASDAQ stocks. otherlisted.txt contains a field that identifies the exchange, which includes NYSE.

For those who are curious, I am generating a list of NYSE stocks in Mathematica using FinancialData["NYSE:*", "Lookup"]] The length of this list is 6,494 while the current estimate for the number of actively traded stocks in the NYSE is 2,400, so maybe this is what I am looking for, but this might include various other financial instruments ...
