USA Softball was founded in 1933 as the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) with a tournament held in Chicago that was organized by Leo Fischer and Michael J. Pauley. [2] The following year, the 1934 National Recreation Congress recognized the ASA. [2] Shortly afterward, the ASA was located in Newark, New Jersey.
Premier Girls Fastpitch was founded in 2009 [2] by Gary Haning and Dan Hay in Huntington Beach, California. [3] The premise of the organization was to compete with the Amateur Softball Association by having teams qualify for regional events as well as the National Championships, ultimately creating better competition for larger events.
The stadium adopted its current name in 2024, when locally-based oil and gas firm Devon Energy signed a multi-year sponsorship agreement with USA Softball. [5] In 2007, it was ranked the number eight sporting venue in the state of Oklahoma. Devon Park will be the softball tournament venue for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics. [6]
