Poplar Bluff is a city in Butler County in southeastern Missouri, United States. It is the county seat of Butler County [6] and is known as "The Gateway to the Ozarks" among other names. The population was 16,225 at the 2020 census. [7] The Poplar Bluff Micropolitan Statistical Area consists of all of Butler County.
I-57 is slated to eventually be extended west along US 60 to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and then south along the US 67 corridor to North Little Rock, Arkansas, ending at I-40. [15] The extension is listed under High Priority Corridor 89, the I-57 Corridor Extension. [ 16 ]
The extension between Springfield and Poplar Bluff was parallel to U.S. Route 65 from Springfield to Highlandville. Between Highlandville and Holister, the highways ran concurrently. Going from south to north, US 67 enters Missouri at the Arkansas state line. About 10 miles (16 km) north of the state line, it intersects US 160.At the southwest corner of Poplar Bluff, Business Route 67 goes into Poplar Bluff while US 67 bypasses Poplar Bluff to the west on a freeway-grade highway.
The four-lane expressway continues through Hollister and Branson toward the Springfield metro area. Through the Branson area, US 65 is built as a freeway. North of Branson is an interchange with the Ozark Mountain Highroad (a freeway spur) and U.S. Route 160. US 160 to Highlandville is the old alignment of US 65 (until the 1960s).
