Downtown McAllen is the main business district in McAllen, Texas. U.S. Interstate 2 runs directly south of the downtown area. The City's Central Business District and encompasses the area west of 10th street, east of Bicentennical, south of Hackberry and north of Interstate 2.

It is a three-story reinforced concrete two-part commercial block building built between 1948 and 1950 for the J. C. Penney Company.
The detention and processing center was opened in 2014 at 3700 W. Ursula Avenue in McAllen, Texas. [4] The facility is made from a former warehouse which was leased by the federal government and modified to be able to hold 1,000 children.
