Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, and dreamt of being a pirate since childhood from the influence of his idol and mentor Red-Haired Shanks. At the age of 17, Luffy sets sail from the East Blue Sea to the Grand Line in search of the legendary treasure, One Piece, to succeed Gol D. Roger as "King of the Pirates".
However Luffy invades the Big Mom Pirates' Empire to save Sanji, but Sanji is unwilling to let his family, though he despises them, die in a trap laid out by Big Mom, who seeks their powerful technology. Luffy responds by acknowledging that such kindness is the heart of Sanji's character.
The series focuses on Monkey D. Luffy—a young man made of rubber after unintentionally eating the Gum-Gum Fruit—who sets off on a journey from the East Blue Sea to find the deceased King of the Pirates Gol D. Roger's ultimate treasure known as the "One Piece", and take over his prior title.
Luffy attempt to fight back using Armament Haki, but his punches go right though him, much to Luffy's confusion, as Trebol question Luffy's assumption of his Devil Fruit being a Logia. Law tells Luffy that fighting Trebol is futile, while revealing Trebol's slime is in fact mucus, before he begins to insult Trebol and the other executives.
Zoro is the first crewmate to join Monkey D. Luffy to be part of his crew of pirates, after he is rescued by Luffy from execution. Zoro is a highly skilled swordsman and serves as the crew's combatant, [ a ] though he possesses an extremely poor sense of direction which recurs as a running gag throughout the series.
Luffy overhears this and it, combined with World's taunting of Ace's death, motivates him enough to successfully defeat World using the Armament Haki ability that he had been honing on Ruskaina. Severely weakened, World uses the cannon on approaching Navy ships, but the attack is deflected by Mihawk and the Navy successfully destroys World's ship.
