State Route 138 Spur (SR 138 Spur) is a very short spur route, about 0.5 miles (0.80 km) in length, in Jonesboro that connects the SR 138 mainline with US 19/US 41/SR 3/SR 54 (Tara Boulevard). Until the early 1990s, it was part of SR 138 proper, which ran through downtown Jonesboro at the time.
To the northeast, it passes McCurry Park North and Links Golf Club, before crossing into Clayton County. In Jonesboro, it intersects US 19/US 41/SR 3 (Tara Boulevard). The four highways head concurrent to the north, along the western edge of Jonesboro. Just before the concurrency ends, they intersect SR 138 Spur (North Avenue).
Parts of Margaret Mitchell's epic 1936 novel Gone with the Wind and the famous 1939 motion picture Gone with the Wind were set in Clayton County, including the location of the fictional plantation Tara. Tara Boulevard was named for the plantation; it is the main north–south road through the county, carrying U.S. 41 and lesser-known State Route 3.
The portion of Tara Boulevard in Clayton County that is not covered by US 19/US 41/SR 3 near Interstate 75 (I-75) is designated as State Route 3 Connector (SR 3 Conn.). The route is little more than a high-capacity set of ramps to and from I-75 and is unsigned. Its entire length is just west of Morrow. The entire route is in Clayton County.

North of Jonesboro, Tara Boulevard merges directly into I-75 while US 19 / US 41 / SR 3 veers to the north-northeast forming the remainder of a full interchange with the interstate highway. From this point northward US 19 / US 41 / SR 3 is known as Old Dixie Highway.
