The Nutro Company has issued a voluntary recall on their popular apple dog treats due to a "potential mold" problem. PetSmart is recalling these dog treats because they could be moldy.
The first recalls were announced by Menu Foods late on Friday, 16 March 2007, for cat and dog food products in the United States. In the ensuing months, many additional recalls were announced by Menu and other companies as the recall expanded throughout North America and to Europe and South Africa.
PetSmart is originally started as Pet Food Warehouse in 1986. The initial two stores opened their doors in 1987 in Phoenix. Jim and Janice Dougherty conceived the idea of a chain of discount pet-food warehouses, and, with the initial financial backing of Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation, incorporated under the name Pacific Coast Distributing in 1986.
During the 1940s, because pet food was not available in stores, animals were predominantly fed homemade food, usually table scraps.
