Clear Lake, or the Clear Lake Area, is a region in parts of Harris and Galveston County in Texas, United States. It is part of the Galveston Bay Area , which itself is a section of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area.
The Clear Lake Golf Course opened in 1963 and closed in 2005. [38] It took up about 180 acres (73 ha) of land. The Clear Lake City Water Authority (CLCWA) took possession of the property. [39] The CLCWA proposed a storm detention area and a dog park for the former property. [40]
Across the creek and lake, Nassau Bay is bordered by League City in Galveston County. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city of Nassau Bay has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.5 km 2 ), of which 1.2 square miles (3.2 km 2 ) land and 0.54 square miles (1.4 km 2 ), or 30.12%, are water.
A distillery was constructed and run by the US government in 1884 on the shores of adjacent Clear Lake. A few people were drawn to the area by the government project, and by 1890 the town of Clear Lake had been founded. Robert L. Palmer served as the postmaster when the office was established there in 1898, and it closed sometime around 1930.
Crystal Beach and the entire Bolivar Peninsula suffered catastrophic damage from Hurricane Ike on the night of September 12–13, 2008. [3] The majority of the area was damaged by a storm surge of over 20 ft, during the high tide of 4:14 a.m., adding 1.5-2.3 ft more height to the storm tide, plus higher waves on top.
The lake feeds Galveston Bay. It is bordered by Houston (Clear Lake City), Pasadena, League City, Clear Lake Shores, Taylor Lake Village, Seabrook and El Lago, Texas. NASA's Johnson Space Center lies near its shores. The lake is a major recreation center and home to one of the largest concentrations of recreational boats and marinas in the nation.
Bay Glen is a neighborhood located within the master-planned community of Clear Lake City in Houston, Texas. The neighborhood was developed in the mid-1980s and borders the neighborhoods of Bay Knoll, Bay Pointe, Bay Oaks, Northfork and Oak Brook West. Bay Glen, along with Bay Knoll, is a member of the Pineloch Community Association. [1]
