Photometric4567. •. Fios has the mix and match special right now that you get the G3100 router and extender rental for free while having the service. You could look into that as well. Reply. zagman76. •. If you’re considering a $300 router purchase vs a $15/month rental, after 20 months the rental becomes more expensive.

Upgrade scenario 1 - ONT box is very old (2 generations +): If your ONT box is old (2 generations +), like mine, Verizon will charge you $149 to come out to your home and upgrade your ONT box and run an ethernet cable from the ONT to your router. The way FiOS works is pretty simple. Verizon pulls a Fiber Optic cable (consisting of Glass, and maybe some Plastic and metal armor) into your unit or home. That fiber cable connections up to a device called an ONT, which is acts as your "ISP Demarc" or, the place where your router connects to. It's like a modem, but it's not.
IoT = Internet of Things. For all the smart devices in your home (smart switch, smart bulbs, smart thermostat, etc.). You have the option to turn it on, to separate these devices from all other devices like your phone or laptop, as these devices are prone to hacking. 2.
dewdude. • 4 yr. ago. Log in to your router. Click "My Network" at the top. Click "Network Connections" on the left. Look for "Broadband Connection (Ethernet/Coax)", click Edit. Scroll down, click settings. Scroll down, again, and look for the Primary and Secondary DNS entries. Set the primary to your pi-hole.
FiOS uses something called an ONT. think of it as a fiber optic modem if you will. It converts the fiber cable to Ethernet or coax. It is possible to connect the ONT’s Ethernet port to the computer directly but it won’t really do DHCP and will have no firewall. It is much better to use a router.
Basically, anywhere you have 5G and FIOS while paying for 1Gb speeds, you also get the 6E 10Gb speeds if you have the proper router, cables, network interface cards for each device. Unfortunately, they charge $400 for a router. Anyone is better off building their own for much cheaper and swapping out the NIC over the years.
Had a scheduled call-back yesterday evening with Fios TS to walk me through rest of set-up. TS rep had me change channel settings on first 2 of the 3 bands (there's 2.4, 5 and 6G) and toggle off radio for 6G; I'm now getting meh wi-fi signal in area of apt close to ONT/router, but zero wi-fi signal in bedroom at other end of apt.
