The Bank of Bhutan's principal office is in Phuntsholing. In 1991, there were twenty-six branch offices throughout the country; [5] by 2014, the bank had expanded to 28 branches, 12 extension counters for covering limited banking services, and over 60 ATMs in Bhutan; [2] and as of July 2017, there were 47 branches across the country. It is also listed on the Royal Securities Exchange of Bhutan. [ 1 ] As of December 31, 2014, the bank's paid-up capital amounted to Nu 449.712 million, with ownership distributed among Punjab National Bank (51%), Bhutanese promoters (19%), and the general public (30%).
The owners of Bank of Bhutan are Druk Holding & Investments Ltd. , which owns 80% of the authorized capital, and the State Bank of India, which accounts for 20% of the capital. [9] Until 2007, the Bank was operated by the Ministry of Finance of Bhutan. It is managed by Druk Holding & Investments, which also manages other public sector companies.
