Choosing the Right Food. Use quality canned kitten food and not regular cat food. Food that is formulated for kittens contains more protein than regular adult formulas. Don't leave any wet food out for more than 20 minutes (even less on hot days). Throw away any leftovers and run the dishes in the dishwasher between feedings.
Non-kitten food is fine for kittens. The kitten foods are just higher calorie. Feed her what she likes and just feed more of it. It all evens out in the end. It's perfectly fine to feed adult food to a kitten. Many adult foods are labeled as for all life stages. You just have to feed more of it to meet a kitten's needs.
Hi, I have a 9 weeks boy who won't eat any cat/kitten food. I tried everything! I bought every single type of food I can find in both Tesco and Asda and nothing. He won't even touch the kitten milk replacer, anything. He eats any type of meat tho.. I feed him chicken breast and sliced beef and ham. I don't want him to starve.
Top Cat. I show cats and from my experience, kittens only need kitten food (and free fed) for the first 4-5 months old. After that they can be changed over to 2 meals a day and on adult food. With early spay/neuter now (3-4 months old), there really is no reason to keep a kitten on kitten food for longer then 5 months.
The recommendations often don't take into consideration growing kittens either. You should be feeding kitten food or "all life stages" food, not adult food to an 8 month old. You can continue to feed some dry food but also include more canned food. Canned food is a lot healthier for cats than dry food.
Purraise. 67,930. Location. Glendale, CATifornia. Agreeing with so many posters to this thread; as a cat is technically considered a kitten for the first year, I would feed either kitten-specific or approved-for-all-ages, high quality food (preferably wet) for at least 1 year. Aug 10, 2016. #14.
Kittens need posts of proteins in order to grow and kitten food has all or most of the nutrients needed for growth. Wet food = proteins and moisture and dry food = carbohydrates very little or no moisture. The other food for them is you can get food for all life stages. Both kittens and adult cats can have it.
Feb 18, 2011. Messages. 177. Purraise. 10. The calorie of Innova kitten food is 201 kcal/can. Innova senior can is about 191kcal/can. All Evo adult cans are 200+kcal/can. I searched on internet about senior cat nutrition, most just said I should reduce fat and calorie.
At 8 months old (assume neutered/spayed too) you can feed the kitten adult foods now. I only keep them on kitten food for the first 4-5 months old and then switch. Never had a problem with growth, health or weight doing so. Jack (5 months old) is eating the same adult food as the rest now. Mar 15, 2009.
At present, I have a kitten who fell from the roof where his mother (a feral or stray) had decided to have her kittens. Unfortunately we have so far been unable to trap the mother and the rest of her litter although she had been taking food from the open trap. Back to the kitten - perhaps 3 weeks old - he had to be bottle fed.
