Muskegon is the center of the Muskegon metropolitan statistical area, which is coextensive with Muskegon County and had a population of 175,824 as of the 2020 census. [3] It is also part of the larger Grand Rapids - Kentwood -Muskegon- combined statistical area .
State highway M-120 passes through the hamlet, connecting Muskegon and Fremont. According to the U.S. Census Bureau , the Twin Lake CDP has a total area of 3.43 square miles (8.9 km 2 ), of which 2.88 square miles (7.5 km 2 ) are land and 0.56 square miles (1.5 km 2 ), or 16.2%, are water.
The township is in central Muskegon County and is bordered to the southwest by the city of Muskegon and to the west by the city of North Muskegon. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 23.8 square miles (62 km 2), of which 23.5 square miles (61 km 2) are land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km 2), or 1.54%, are water. The township is in central Muskegon County, north of Muskegon, the county seat, and southeast of Whitehall. U.S. Route 31 crosses the township from northwest to south as a four-lane freeway, with access from Exits 118, 121, and 126. State highway M-120 crosses the east side of the township, passing through the community of Twin Lake.
