The obverse has a profile of King George V and his wife Queen Mary in coronation robes, facing left. The reverse has the crowned Royal Cypher above the date of the coronation, 22 June 1911. The coronation of George V and his wife, Mary, as king and queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions took place at Westminster Abbey, London, on Thursday 22 June 1911. Double sovereigns dated 1911 were struck as part of the coronation proof sets that year for George V (r. 1910–1936), but for uncertain reasons, no ordinary, non-proof specimens were coined. This was the only issuance of double sovereigns during that reign.
