In 2010, McGregor's performance as the Ghost Writer in Roman Polanski's psychological thriller The Ghost Writer won the European Film Award for Best Actor. In 2016, McGregor made his directorial feature film debut in American Pastoral. He reprised the role as Renton in the sequel film T2 Trainspotting (2017).

American Pastoral is a 2016 American crime-drama film directed by Ewan McGregor (in his feature directorial debut) and written by John Romano, based on the 1997 novel of the same name by Philip Roth. The film stars McGregor, Jennifer Connelly, Dakota Fanning, Peter Riegert, Rupert Evans, Uzo Aduba, Molly Parker and David Strathairn.
