The 2023–24 East Carolina Pirates men's basketball team represented East Carolina University during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season.The Pirates, led by second-year head coach Michael Schwartz, played their home games at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum in Greenville, North Carolina as ninth-year members of the American Athletic Conference (AAC).
Basketball became the first intercollegiate sport at East Carolina, beginning with the 1931–1932 season. The Pirates joined the NAIA North State Conference in 1947, winning the conference title in 1953–54 and appeared in the NAIA National Tournament two years in 1953 and '54, winning two district titles before losing in the first round of the national finals.
The 2023 tournament was Jim Nantz's final season as the lead play-by-play announcer, with Ian Eagle succeeding him starting in 2024 onwards. [ 23 ] The 2023 tournament was also Greg Gumbel 's last as studio host, as he was unavailable due to family health concerns for the 2024 NCAA tournament before he died from cancer on December 27, 2024.
