The highest summit of the Surrey Hills National Landscape, Leith Hill near Coldharbour, is 294 metres (965 ft) above sea level.It is part of the Greensand Ridge, which traverses the National Landscape from west to east, and is the second highest point in south-east England (Walbury Hill at 297 metres or 974 feet above sea level is the highest).

The northern boundary is less apparent but occurs where the chalk submerges below the more recent Paleocene deposits. [1] The Downs are highest near the Kent–Surrey border, often reaching heights in excess of 200 m (660 ft) above sea level at the crest of the escarpment. The Kent Downs is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in Kent, England. [1] They are the eastern half of the North Downs and stretch from the London/Surrey borders to the White Cliffs of Dover, including a small section of the London Borough of Bromley.
The stretch from Hindhead to Leith Hill has formed part of the Surrey Hills AONB since 1958. The Sevenoaks Ridge, from the Surrey–Kent border to Borough Green, is included in the Kent Downs AONB. The waymarks alone are not sufficient to follow the trail – an OS map, or the online guide with maps, is required. [4]
