Cien sonetos de amor ("100 Love Sonnets") is a collection of sonnets written by the Chilean poet and Nobel Laureate Pablo Neruda originally published in Argentina in 1959. Dedicated to Matilde Urrutia , later his third wife, it is divided into the four stages of the day: morning, afternoon, evening, and night.
Weber was also the first person to translate the poems into a European language (into German), but his translation was published in journals and not as a separate book. The only English translation to include 700 verses (1–700 of Weber's edition) is by Radhagovinda Basak in 1970. [ 16 ]
The collection comprises twenty love poems, followed by a final poem titled The Song of Despair. Except for the final poem, the individual poems in the collection are untitled. Although the poems draw inspiration from Neruda's real-life love experiences as a young man, the book is not solely dedicated to a single lover.
