Naugatuck (/ ˈ n ɔː ɡ ə t ʌ k / NAW-gə-tuhk) is a consolidated borough and town in New Haven County, Connecticut, United States. The town, part of the Naugatuck Valley Planning Region , had a population of 31,519 as of the 2020 Census.
The Naugatuck River is a 40.2-mile-long (64.7 km) [4] river in the U.S. state of Connecticut.Its waters carve out the Naugatuck River Valley in the western reaches of the state, flowing generally due south and eventually emptying into the Housatonic River at Derby, Connecticut and thence 11 miles (18 km) to Long Island Sound.
The geographic region includes colloquial subregions—rural Northwestern Connecticut and the area associated with the city of Torrington, also known as the Upper Naugatuck River Valley or simply Litchfield Hills—which have also variously corresponded to designated government councils both past and present.

The Naugatuck Center Historic District encompasses the historic civic and business center of Naugatuck, Connecticut. Centered around the town green, the district includes churches, schools and municipal buildings, many from the late 19th or early 20th centuries, as well as a diversity of residential architecture.
In 1860, a resort hotel called the Kenosia Hotel opened at the lake. It was destroyed by fire the same year. [3] In the late 1800s, the Danbury and Bethel Street Railway, which owned the shortest electrified trolley system in Connecticut, purchased 12 acres (4.9 ha) of land on Lake Kenosia to build an amusement park.
