The Wichita, Kansas Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Office of Management and Budget, is an area consisting of four counties in south central Kansas, its only principal city is Wichita and its only central county is Sedgwick County.
The Arkansas City Traveler was founded in 1870 by M. G. Mains. It was named after a song of the same name and early issues had a fiddle below the masthead. [ 7 ] The newspaper was sold to Stauffer Communications in 1924, [ 8 ] which was acquired by Morris Communications in 1995. [ 9 ]

European-American settlers first congregated in the area where Arkansas City now stands in the 1860s. Settlers established a town in 1870. They had difficulty choosing a name; early names included Adelphia, Creswell, and Walnut City before the present name was chosen.
