I wear my Newbalance running shoes (Vibram sole) until it gets too wet, then I immediately switch to my PUMA Luff boots. I also purchased a pair of Sperry "tech" shoes at this year's boat show (attractive price) and after 2 attempts on the fore deck (both sliding around while dry) they've been renegaded to the lowest depths of the gear box.
Be sure you take those new shoes and scarf up the soles on a gravel road. I bought a pair of those Sperry New/Balance high tops (called the sb870 I think), and my next day wearing them in a race I did a great job slipping and slamming my big fat ass on the wet deck. I'll let you know this spring how the "after gravel treatment" worked.
Just bought a new pair of sailing shoes for the first time in about 15 years as I've started sailing on keel boats again and need something other than dingy boots. Got the new Sperry "ASV Solution" shoe. Have not worn them on a boat yet, but pretty impressed with the advances in technology just wearing them around a little.
The Sperry Harbormaster is actually a pretty not bad shoe. They're comfortable for my foot, light, dry quickly. I bought 2 "extra" pairs before my first pair wore out... only complain with them, is that the sole tends to wear quicly when worn off the boat..

Shoes ? If you skip the shoes, you're putting your whole team at risk of dropping out of a race when your toe goes thru a block or you trip on something that leaves you bleeding or broken. Also please consider your crew prefers not to co-mingle with your foot skank, or blood. Owners and boat jigs hate dirty footprints too, thank you for asking
My boat is shoes off. We have "boat only" shoes that we as a family wear, but any guests have to have shoes off because we don't want street grime and stones and other stuff scraping up the deck. We do have spare boat shoes if people want to wear them but mostly people go barefoot. Down below, we are ALL shoes off. Period.

Same for clothing and shoes. 'Pros' will not wear proper 'boat shoes'. They are for poofters and pretenders apparently. "Pros' will help you out wearing thongs (flip flops) because they think that people paying $250 for a pair of Sperrry's or some other recognised brand are fuckwits and wanna-bees.
In the beginning the boat got an immense amount of love. But in the past few years, not so much. Part of that was the realization that we will not be spending time cruising on the boat like I had hoped. Work and all the other interruptions of life we allowed to get into the way. I wish it wasn't so. Today the boat was lifted and put back into ...
