Under the heading "ESPN SETTINGS" there is now an option labeled "Clear TV Provider on Launch". Click on the slider/button for that choice. Launch the ESPN app. When asked to login to my provider I was able to do it (YouTube TV). Here's my details on models/versions of the hardware and software I'm running: iPhone 14 Pro Max iOS 16.6.1
There were some reports matching this one, of not being able to log into the ESPN app with YouTube TV info. The engineering team did look into it & have let me know a new update for the ESPN app (6.65) has been released & should now allow YouTube TV login.
YouTube TV gets you NBA, Bowl Season, ACC and SEC basketball. ... YouTube TV will get you ESPN, ESPN2, SEC ...

It's hard to argue the point when one broadcast blatantly looks better in every way. It's not even a huge exception--they broadcast games every single week of the season in 4k. Like the point is maybe we could get that on ESPN or something not to be dismissal with it's just "upscaled" or something.
The ESPN cable stuff is what you unlocked by using your YTTV login, that's anything that airs on the main ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNEWS/etc cable channels. The ESPN+ content is only unlocked by a ESPN+ subscription, completely separate from your cable/YTTV subscription.
All of this is via a Roku Ultra on a relatively modern 4K tv. Jumped through a bunch of authentication hoops and enabled the ESPN app through the youtube TV subscription and via the ESPN+ subscription for the Hulu/Disney/ESPN bundle, and then was able to stream what looked like the same feed through that ESPN app.
That’s not for Sunday ticket. That’s for the YouTube tv base plan (which has your local cbs and fox, among others). Sunday Ticket provides unlimited at-home streams and 2 out of home streams. That’s separate from the YouTube tv base plan. The 4k add on has nothing to do with the Sunday ticket stations.
