Paul P. Herschberger was the first minister and the first bishop was Joseph Schlegel of Milford, Nebraska. In 1888, The Yantzi family deeded two acres of land for the establishment of a church and cemetery. The deed was recorded in the Holt County Book of Deeds, on May 9, 1888 on page 173.

Holt County was created by an act of the Nebraska Territory Legislature in 1862, and was organized in 1876. [4] [5] [6] It is named for Joseph Holt of Kentucky, who was postmaster general and secretary of war under President James Buchanan. It shares its name with Holt County, Missouri, though it is named for a different Holt.
He was buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery in O'Neill, Nebraska. [2] The Old Nebraska State Bank Building in O'Neill, in which Kinkaid had his law office from 1884 until his death, is now the Holt County Historical Museum. [9] It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. [4] Kinkaid's office has been restored and is on display. [10]
