Oct 16, 2024. #15. I'm pretty sure I'm having the exact same problem on my 10 year old G3's. After a long day of fishing, my pant leg below the knee and socks are damp, not wet, and definitely not soaking. I likewise have washed and re-waterproofed my waders, using the appropriate products, and the condition persists.
I have both the Orvis Pro waders and the new generation G3 from Simms. I would say this, and this just my opinion: The Orvis Pro is a much more durable and heavier weight fabric and less likely to snag bristles and thorns if bushwhacking. The kneepads are really nice if you have to kneel for any amount of time.
Two summers ago I purchased Simms G3 Guide Stockingfoot waders. They now have leaks in both of the feet and in both of the knees. I probably fish 60-80 days a year. I see on the Simms website that it says to dry your waders after every use. To be honest, I don't always do that. I previously owned a pair of Orvis waders that lasted much longer ...
I just purchased a new pare of Simms waders and will be using them in the summer months, poison ivy etc and I do not mix so wet wadding is out . I was thinking a lite pair of Simms zip offs. If heat is crazy I was thinking of taking a chance and just going with a pair of the zip off and wet wading. Thanks for the input.
I find these new waders interesting. For many years I've bought g3 guide waders and like them. G3s have gotten pretty expensive for me. These are cheaper. Besides price, I find these interesting due to different material- not Gore-Tex, and knee pads. Regularly fishing shallow/clear water, I...
I turn my waders inside out. I check each leg separately by blowing into the top of the leg. Grab wader in the area where the leg begins. Blow into it and the leg will expand. Hold it closed and twist if you must to keep the air in the leg. Then submerge the leg.
When it comes to breathability, Gore Tex Pro is the best. When it comes to membranes, everyone knows Gore Tex. Simms offers a Gore membraned wader called the Rivershed at the $299 price point. It uses an earlier version of Gore Tex, but it still is a Gore membraned wader.
I have been using Simms waders since 2001 and have purchased them for both my son and daughter. I have had two different pairs of G3's since 2004 - both are still in use. I bought the 2017 model for my son at The River's Edge West in Bozeman last September which is next door to the Simms factory - so he has two pairs still in use.
It's that time. I'm in the market for a durable pair of waders. I know SIMMS are well received but how do Orvis Silver Label (~$300) and Patagonia Rio Gallegos (~$450) compare to the SIMMS G3 (~$450). I'm really looking for some first hand experience with these products. All 3 companies stand...
A couple of points: 1) I noticed in an old pair of Redington waders that finally gave out that wearing course fabric pants, such as jeans with ridged seams, tended to wear thin areas inside the waders, through which some water could penetrate; 2) for my Simms, I hiked a steep hill in them when I should not have, which stretched the legs more ...
