I have been taking Colestipol for a couple of years. I have diarrhea only IBS, so finding myself a little constipated is a bit of a relief. I take 1 at night along an Imodium in the morning and probiotics weekly. I find this regimen works for me most of the time, so that I am no longer nervous about leaving the house.

Bile acid diarrhea is a relatively unique diarrhea - urgent and almost impossible to hold, and then it comes out with an intense fiery sensation in the rectum. Are you experiencing this? In my experience, immediately after my surgery I needed colestipol about 4 times a day, but now I am down to 2 or 3, depending on what I eat.

Colestipol and the like are bile binders that activate in your intestine and typically cause chronic diarrhea and fat malabsorption. They will not bind with bile acid in your stomach. When you condensed your diet to bland and non-fatty foods it would have felt better from that.

FODMAPs are carbohydrates that are: Dr. Wang explains that “there are two ways to try the FODMAP diet—one is what is called a ‘Top Down’ approach, which is where all FODMAPs are eliminated from the diet for a full 6 week period. Then, food groups are reintroduced one by one to assess for return of symptoms. Another is the ‘Bottoms Up ...

Second, you probably should not take them if you are prone to constipation. As a doctor once told me, these drugs will stuff up a goose. These treat bile-acid malabsorption diarrhea, which is related to SIBO (I will elaborate later). Third, you should really consider asking your doctor for welchol or colestipol and not cholestyramine.

After about one week with days of severe diarrhea, determined I could not do this. Then, gave me samples of Linzess, lowest dosage. After 24 days doing this and needing to plan my entire life around when I took the pill, when I ate, and when it was going to work and whether I could make it in time w/o accident, I determined that was not going ...

This is interesting…gastro dr recommended 2 Zenpep (40,000) with each meal, equaling 6 per day. It gave me fibrosing colonopathy and I was in agony with the cramping and diarrhea. I stopped after the worst episode last Friday. Started over with the Zenpep ONCE before my evening meal. So far, so good!

I am weak as a baby with no aid in sight. The doctors offer no real help except telling me what to eat or not. Any similiar experience or advice.

  11. Does anyone have EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency)?

    connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/does-anyone-have-epi-exocrine-pancreatic...

Along with an increase in Creon, I have been put on Colestipol 1M/ 2 tablets twice daily. THIS seems to be helping immensely. It's been suggested that I have EPI with BAM. I have had 12 days straight with no diarrhea. However it is still too early to determine if this is the magic combination. Fingers crossed.
