Founded as the Mapúa Institute of Technology on January 25, 1925, by Tomás B. Mapúa, [7] a graduate of Cornell University and the first registered Filipino architect and civil engineer Gonzalo T. Vales as an Architecture and Civil engineering school, it is the first institution in the Philippines to offer a Bachelor's degree in Architecture. [8]

The Mapúa Institute of Technology at Laguna (MITL) is the flagship college of the Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna. The college is under the Mapúa School of Engineering in the Philippines. MITL is among the three pioneer colleges under MCL. It offers architecture and seven engineering programs.

Cesar Concio graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of the Philippines in 1928. He was a member of Upsilon Sigma Phi. [4] He then took up architecture at the Mapua Institute of Technology in 1932.
