12AT7 (also known in Europe by the Mullard–Philips tube designation of ECC81) is a miniature nine-pin medium-gain (60) dual-triode vacuum tube popular in guitar amplifiers. It belongs to a large family of dual triode vacuum tubes which share the same pinout (EIA 9A), including in particular the very commonly used low-mu 12AU7 and high-mu 12AX7.
The 12AX7 is a high-gain (typical amplification factor 100), low-plate-current triode best suited for low-level audio voltage amplification. In this role it is widely used for the preamplifier (input and mid-level) stages of audio amplifiers. It has relatively high Miller capacitance, making it unsuitable for radio-frequency use.
The Z-Wreck is a Vox AC30-style amp that was originally made for country guitar player, Brad Paisley. Fischer's final design, the Songwriter 30, was licensed under Komet Amps. It features four cathode-biased EL84/6BQ5 output tubes and two 12AX7 preamp tubes.

Vox soon tired of the problem so to cure AC30/4 reliability issues caused by the troublesome EF86 preamp tube, [4] in late 1960 Vox redesigned the preamp circuit, replaced the EF86 with an ECC83 (12AX7), and released this new design as the AC30/6. The AC30/6 was now an amp with three channels, each channel having two inputs.
