The Springfield Thunderbirds are a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League that began play for the 2016–17 season. They are the affiliate of the National Hockey League's St. Louis Blues. Based in Springfield, Massachusetts, the Thunderbirds play their home games at the MassMutual Center.

Matt Luff (born May 5, 1997) is a Canadian professional ice hockey winger who is currently playing with the Springfield Thunderbirds in the American Hockey League (AHL). Undrafted, he has played for the Los Angeles Kings , Nashville Predators , and the Detroit Red Wings .
Ranger played his junior career with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). After being drafted 183rd overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning, he played two more seasons with the Generals before signing with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) during the 2004–05 NHL lockout.
